Seismic upgrade – elementary school
Structural upgrades on an active school site require careful planning, particularly when critical work needs to continue through a regional rainy season.
For this seismic retrofit, the challenge was maintaining a precise, dry working environment while structural work was underway.
The challenge
Weather exposure can create significant disruption during structural retrofit work. Rain can affect welds, materials and the working environment, while unpredictable conditions can make it difficult to maintain a consistent project schedule.

The solution: a weather-tight envelope
Safe Seal Wrap was used to create a continuous weather-tight enclosure around the active work area.
The system incorporated:
9 mil reinforced white shrink wrap
A reinforced shrink wrap barrier was used to create the external protective envelope around the work zone.
Heat-welded seams
The wrap was heat-welded to create strong, secure seams throughout the enclosure.
Drum-tight stability
The finished installation provided a tight, stable enclosure around the work area.
Hermetic barrier
The continuous barrier helped isolate the work zone from external weather conditions.
UV & thermal protection
The enclosure provided additional protection against external environmental exposure during the project.
Keeping critical work moving
The controlled environment helped reduce the impact of rain on critical welds and materials, supporting more predictable scheduling and allowing the project team to focus on the work rather than constantly reacting to changing weather conditions.
The project also helped reduce potential material waste associated with water exposure, optimise labour utilisation and minimise weather-related disruption.
For the team on site, a more consistent working environment can also support better conditions for carrying out detailed structural work.
